Mo-Kan: The Question!

I actually attended the Mo-Kan Comics Conspiracy as an artist. Got my own table and put out my art to sell. Alex Knapp, a man whose art collection I've admired on CAF, actually asked me to add to his Question-themed sketchbook, and this was what I came up with. In the next hour, I thought of at least 100 ways I could do it differently. . . but them's the con-sketch blues. I hope you liked it, Alex!

Sketch City

I had my friend Jason take a picture of me and I based the Vision off of my own pose. . . I think I'll turn him a little more toward his profile for the finished version. I think I got his face to look a little BWS-ish! Juggernaut, on the other hand, was done from memory and as a companion to the Colossus I had. I believe I'll do a final piece that shows Jugs and Pete getting ready to armwrestle, which my brother James suggested to me a while back. Pete knows he'll lose, but he'll have his teammates around to even the score after Jugs trashes him. . .

I am pleased with these because I just sketched them out from memory really quick and then finished them with a Sharpie. It was fun, even if Aaralyn thinks the Cyke looks like a girl.

Moon Knight

First image is the preliminary sketch I did for my Moon Knight original composition! I felt I gained knowlege about how to bend the torso of a figure to make it more dynamic. And next is the finished Moon Knight, done on an 18x24 Strathmore 400. It was so fun to do, and I really like that it is huge. I'm lost as to how to treat the buildings, so I'll just leave them blank for now.

Batman after Bruce Timm

Batman: The Animated Series was one of my favorite cartoons ever. Bruce Timm's vision was so complete. . . he made Gotham City a character in the cartoon, an absolute necessity for any Batman story. The music was perfect. The mood, the lighting. The bad guys. And the right voice and look for Bats.

His Name is The Captain

Mad respect for Stuart Immonen and Warren Ellis, who managed to make The Captain a memorable character. . . finally, after years of ignominy and name changes and humiliating defeats. . .

I'm having trouble with dynamic shots. I think my trouble is twofold at least. I have to get away from making my torsos so rigid and 90 degreeish. And my characters look flat most of the time. So I'll be actively working on those issues for now.

Other than that, I like how his hair looks!

This is an original composition that I wrote 3 to 4 years ago, then re-arranged it for acoustic guitar. There are actually words to this song, but I'm not singing or posting them here due to a lengthy copyright battle with New Zealand folk parodists "Flight of the Conchords."
