I had an artist table at the Charlotte Heroescon. Let's start out by reviewing some of my happy customers!

This was so fun. I got to hang out with my brother Jim, we got to attend a barbecue at my friend and fellow art lover Terence Hoskins' house, we got to meet all his friends and coworkers who put on the podcast "The Dollar Bin", I got to meet some of my favorite artists, I got some killer art, I sold a bunch of my art and prints, and MIKE MIGNOLA GAVE ME AN ART LESSON!

This is perhaps my fourth Hellboy recreation. I continue to marvel at Mignola's skill, stopping several times through this recreation to pause and admire the boldness of his choices. I did this for research and practice, and also because I can't afford any actual Mignola covers.

I have books on drawing anatomy. My friend Zipporah read the section on faces and told me about the formula one uses to compose a face. I used that formula instead of any actual reference to drawn these women. I also used blue and green colored pencils.

I had my friend Jason take a picture of me and I based the Vision off of my own pose. . . I think I'll turn him a little more toward his profile for the finished version. I think I got his face to look a little BWS-ish! Juggernaut, on the other hand, was done from memory and as a companion to the Colossus I had. I believe I'll do a final piece that shows Jugs and Pete getting ready to armwrestle, which my brother James suggested to me a while back. Pete knows he'll lose, but he'll have his teammates around to even the score after Jugs trashes him. . .

First image is the preliminary sketch I did for my Moon Knight original composition! I felt I gained knowlege about how to bend the torso of a figure to make it more dynamic. And next is the finished Moon Knight, done on an 18x24 Strathmore 400. It was so fun to do, and I really like that it is huge. I'm lost as to how to treat the buildings, so I'll just leave them blank for now.

Mad respect for Stuart Immonen and Warren Ellis, who managed to make The Captain a memorable character. . . finally, after years of ignominy and name changes and humiliating defeats. . .

I'm having trouble with dynamic shots. I think my trouble is twofold at least. I have to get away from making my torsos so rigid and 90 degreeish. And my characters look flat most of the time. So I'll be actively working on those issues for now.
